Jack O’Reilly | LLB Corporate and Commercial – Director

Jack is a highly experienced and accomplished venture capital lawyer who has helped numerous startups and emerging companies navigate the complex world of venture capital and private equity finance. With over 12 years of post-qualification experience, Jack has developed an impressive track record of successfully negotiating M&A and investment transactions.

Jack’s expertise extends to all aspects of corporate and commercial law, including drafting and negotiating term sheets, drafting and negotiating operational agreements, advising on corporate governance matters, and providing strategic advice and guidance on business and legal issues.

With his commercial litigation background, he thrives when presented with the opportunity to help clients resolve commercial disputes and find pragmatic and cost-effective solutions to complex business challenges.

In addition to being the managing director at O’Reilly Law, Jack frequently acts as startup mentor and guest presenter on startup law related topics.

When not at the office, he enjoys reading non-fiction, spending time with his wife, son and their two miniature schnauzers; and exploring the Cape Winelands with friends and family.

Albert De Lange | LLB Associate

Albert de Lange joined the O’Reilly Law team in 2023 as an admitted attorney and conveyancer.

Albert commenced his legal career in 2018 at a prominent and well-respected firm in Paarl. He has gained expertise in the areas of civil litigation, commercial litigation, commercial drafting, and negotiation as well as expertise in relation to property law.

When not at the office, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, visiting their family farm in the Northern Cape, or exploring the scenic golf courses and wine farms of the Western Cape.

Robyn Bandey | BA LLB (cum laude) Commercial Attorney

Robyn joined the O’Reilly Law team in 2021 as a corporate and commercial law consultant.

She is a specialist Corporate M&A, Banking and Finance, and Insolvency lawyer with 14 years of experience. She has held various roles, as an in-house legal principal at Coast2Coast private equity, Head of Corporate M&A Deloitte Legal, and Senior associate at Edward Nathan Sonnenberg’s insolvency department.

She has been involved in various complex cross-border M&A and financing transactions. She has vast experience in Loan Market Association documentation, restructuring (both in insolvency matters and general reorganization), and complex M&A transactions with a vast field of knowledge in pharmaceuticals.

Anri Heyns | BCom Law, LLB, LLM, PhD, PG Dip: Corporate Law Commercial Attorney

Anri joined the O’Reilly Law team in 2023 as corporate and commercial law consultant.

Anri values a holistic approach to legal work. As a contract drafter, legal adviser, academic researcher, and lecturer, Anri is passionate about making the law and legal solutions accessible without ignoring the theoretical intricacies and controversies often accompanying doing legal work.

She has experience as a practicing attorney specializing in corporate and commercial law and currently focuses on contract drafting and research.

Anri has also lectured at various tertiary institutions in South Africa in subjects such as property law, constitutional property law, jurisprudence, contract law, and mining law at undergrad and postgrad levels. Her Ph.D. research considered the problems plaguing mining authorities, mining companies, and mining communities alike in implementing the provisions of the Mining Charter – addressing real practical issues, from a foundation in legal theory and critical analysis.

Carmen Mafiet | Executive Secretary and Client Services

Carmen plays an important role, not only as a legal secretary and receptionist in the practice but as a client services point of contact. She comes with extensive experience in the legal services industry having worked for various firms ranking in the Legal 500 UK. She understands the importance of client communication and confidentiality in a legal environment and is absolutely resolute in her role.

Liezl Van Der Merwe | LLB Associate

Liezl Van Der Merwe joined us in November 2023. She is an admitted attorney and heads up the firm’s business development initiatives.
