COVID-19 Workplace Readiness Toolkit

 

As a medium to large sized business (especially business employing more than 10 employees), there are a host of regulatory compliance considerations to be taken into account, such as the adoption of a workplace plan.

On Sunday the 24th of May 2020, President Ramaphosa announced that the country will be moving to Alert level 3 in terms of the risk adjusted strategy for the resumption of economic activity during the COVID-19 state of national disaster.

 

Subject to exclusions in the updated regulations which we await, most businesses will be able to resume operations as of 1 June 2020.

You need to ensure that your workplace is safe, ready for operation and that you comply with the Disaster Management Act Regulations as well as the amendments and directives made in terms of the Hazardous Biological Agents Regulations in relation to COVID 19 (the C-19 Occupational Health and Safety Regulations governing the workplace).

 

Business owners will have to conduct adequate health and safety planning, undertake COVID 19 business and staff risk assessments and ensure that risk mitigation measures are identified, documented, communicated to workers through policies and executed by the appropriate person.

 

Your legal duties require the appointment of a compliance officer to maintain and monitor the application of measures identified in the risk assessments, that engineering controls are put in place and that administrative control measures such as remote working, social distancing, hygiene and safety and PPE policies are prepared and applied at the workplace.
